# Delete a flow

> **Beta.** The request and response shapes may still change.

Delete a flow. Nothing refers to a flow - it is what an evaluation references - so there is no reference check to pass, and the recipes it referenced are left in place.

An evaluation referencing a deleted flow is refused. Deleting a flow that is already gone succeeds.

Nothing refers to a flow - it is what an evaluation references - so there is no reference check to pass and no `409` to expect. The recipes it referenced are left in place.

Deletes a live flow. **IMPORTANT**: an evaluation referencing a deleted flow is refused, so deleting a flow still wired into a live code path turns every call at that gate into an error. Emptying the flow is not an alternative - a flow must reference at least one recipe - so to stop a gate scoring while keeping the call working, set its recipes to `INACTIVE` instead.

Deleting a flow that is already gone returns `204`. A `404` here means the identifier is malformed, not that the flow was missing.
